DRIVE SYSTEMS
PLC controls are the brains of an automation system; but drive systems are the muscle that ultimately make things happen. IMS has been designing, building, and commissioning drive systems since the early 1990s. Drive systems are one of the core competencies of IMS; we know how to drive.

We have covered the full gamut of drive applications, beginning with motor-generator set controls, to DC drive and motor technology, on to Servo and AC vector technology.
Although most new applications have transitioned to AC technology, IMS continues to make DC drive systems on a regular basis. A good percentage of our business is retrofitting existing drives and control systems. On many occasions, our customers want to retain the DC motors on their equipment. Siemens has a newer DC product in the 6RA80 DC drive line, and most recently ABB has introduced the DCS880 series drives. Both Siemens and ABB DC products offer excellent performance and communication options.

AC drive systems dominate the landscape today for almost all new applications and IMS has you covered. We have vast experience in AC drive systems whether it be traditional AC input drives with dynamic bus braking, or full blown common regenerative bus systems. We have designed and built common bus systems with 200+ drives. IMS is not tied to any particular manufacturer, therefore, we have built many systems using ABB ACS880 standard and ACS880 Multidrives systems, Siemens S120 & G120 drives, and Allen Bradley PowerFlex 700 & 75 drives. IMS was an early adopter of the Allen Bradley 755T common bus drive; in fact, we have an 80+ 755T drive system that recently moved through our test area during a Factory Acceptance Test and is now on its way into the field.
So, no matter whether it is AC or DC, ABB, Allen Bradley, Siemens, or others, IMS has a drive system solution for just about any application
