Integrated Mill Systems, IMS keeps AK Steel, Finishing Mill Main Drive motors running at – the largest stainless producer in the US. The new drive system is a direct replacement for the existing drive, with identical functionality from the mill operator’s point of view. The PLC is interfaced to the existing mill equipment via a combination of discrete signals and AutoMax DCS network. The new drive equipment is PLC-based and will have new diagnostic and maintenance functions. The new HMI terminals will give the maintenance personnel greatly improved troubleshooting aids and the ability to modify PLC programs and tune the drive dynamic response.

Vallourec Star’s operations are fully integrated, from the latest technology in electric arc furnace steel making, to pipe production, heat treatment, and threading located in Youngstown, Ohio.

Integrated Mill Systems, IMS was awarded a contract to revamp the electrics and automation for a Slab Caster that is being relocated from the Sparrows Point mill in MD to Granite City, IL USS facility. Located in the St. Louis – Southern Illinois area, Granite City Works is a leading supplier of high-quality hot- rolled, cold-rolled and coated sheet steel products to customers in the construction, container, piping and tubing, service center, and automotive industries. Granite City Works has an annual raw steelmaking capability of 2.8 million net tons.
Integrated Mill Systems, IMS has recently modernized U. S. Steel’s Lorain Tubular Operations near Cleveland, Ohio, which manufactures high-quality seamless pipe for the oil and gas exploration and production industries. The facility has an annual production capability of 780,000 net tons. Major product lines include: oil country tubing; casing and drill pipe; standard and line pipe; and coupling stock.
Among the leaders in the metals industry is Arcelor Mittal’s Cleveland Works, recently described in the press as the “most productive steel plant on the planet”, is due in no small part to Integrated Mill Systems which has led the way for the past 10 years in helping make this a reality.

IMS is providing a turnkey upgrade of the main pulpit controlling the two-high, 120-inch roughing mill and four-high, 160-inch finishing mill.
