  • About Us

    Who are we

IMS was founded in the early 1990’s to provide industrial automation system solutions and services to the Metals Producing Industry.

    What do we do

IMS provides automation and electrical equipment to maximize your process upgrade or expansion investment by:

    • Providing robust equipment designs.
    • Providing software designs tailored with full diagnostic features.
    • Providing open systems using standard industrial and commercial quality hardware available through local supply chains.

IMS provides Engineering and Automation services to maximize your existing  process operation based on:

    • Extensive metal process experience.
    • Extensive legacy product background.
    • Extensive “phase-in” equipment transition experience.

    How do we do it

IMS has developed and adheres to a design concept of “vertical start-up”. As our core business is the supply of “phased-in” systems for critical process operations. we have developed project design techniques for shadowing, phase-in & drop back commissioning. These project techniques are applied to hardware and software designs to permit equipment commissioning within a limited outage window. This permits the installation, commissioning of equipment and the achievement of full process production in the shortest allowable time frame.

A “vertical start-up” is not a component of an overall project but rather it defines the methodology of design, documentation and testing requirements for the project.  The methodology is presented through a series of documentation and their related contents.

    Project Execution Plan
Submitted as a general plan developed for larger scope projects executed beyond single calendar year.

    System Wide Design Specification
Submitted as overview document outlining the project scope, control system overview and definitions, HMI, basic design concepts, basic control strategies, and design standards.

    Equipment Benchmark/Audit
For existing operating processes, site visits are made to define the current performance and operating methods. Submitted as overview document outlining the existing control and electrical systems, equipment locations, and take-over points are defined plus a summary of available client documentation and any client design standards.

    First Engineering Submittal (FES)
Submitted as a design document providing a basic project description covering a basic operating description, Run modes & E-Stop conditions, operating device description, equipment sequencing, Automation Master system design, Sub-Master and Sub-System design specifications.

    Second Engineering Submittal (SES)
Submitted as a design document providing a specific functional description suitable to allow software coding to proceed. This description would entail refinements to the description of operation and design standards plus finalized control strategies, and software program design.

    Interface Design Specification (IDS)
Submitted as a design document providing definition of information (data) exchanged between the Automation Master and the supplied Sub-Master or client’s major 3rd party equipment, between the Automation Master and the client’s Plant or Level 2 system plus memory structure and communication methods..

    Factory Acceptance Test (FAT)
Submitted as a test document outlining the general test setup, equipment necessary to conduct the test, specify the required hardware connections, define the testing procedure, and summarize changes as required. Documentation is submitted for each supplied equipment item.

    Start-Up Plan (SUP)
Submitted as a plan document outlining the inclusive process of basic power and device check-out on site with calibration, tuning and operational test of the supplied equipment. IMS provided test apparatus  necessary for start-up and check-out is specified along with needed client provided equipment, ma-power or other materials or services are indicated. A complete start-up schedule is developed along with Acceptance criteria is submitted.
